Milan Upadhyaya is a second-generation tea farmer from Assam, carrying forward a 25-year-old family garden while quietly redefining its path. Growing up around a tea garden created both familiarity and curiosity, a desire to explore specialty tea making beyond conventional production.Â
Seeking a different perspective, Milan spent time on tea farms in Japan, learning discipline and craftsmanship alongside Japanese producers. The experience reframed tea as a form of art, revealing its endless creative possibilities.Â
Upon returning to Assam, he began experimenting with small batches, refining processing techniques, and perfecting tea craftsmanship. Working hands-on across both field and factory, Milan focuses on producing handmade black, green, and oolong specialty teas. Through Maayah Tea, his aim is to reinterpret Assam tea through a quieter, specialty-driven perspective, allowing origin, craft, and thoughtful making to define each tea
